The dual study programme is offered at two locations: In Berlin at Bundesdruckerei GmbH (in cooperation with the Berlin School of Economics and Law, HWR Berlin) and in Bonn at Xecuro GmbH (in cooperation with Rheinische Hochschule Cologne).

Start & duration

The dual study programme at Bundesdruckerei GmbH starts on 1 October each year, while at Xecuro GmbH it starts on 1 September. It lasts three years (six semesters) and combines varied theory phases at the university with exciting practical phases in the company.

Required school-leaving qualification: 

You hold a general university entrance qualification or an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences and have strong mathematical skills. Initial experience or basic knowledge in computer science is an advantage, but not required. 

Your responsibilities in the Business Informatics dual study programme

From business intelligence to cyber security: in your dual study programme in Business Informatics, you combine business expertise with technological understanding. You will learn how information and application systems are planned, developed and optimised, and how they help drive business success. You will also work on business process management, data management, IT security and the analysis of complex business processes. 

Your tasks in detail:

  • You contribute to projects that advance digitalisation, security and innovation, helping to create modern IT solutions with real added value.
  • You will analyse business processes and develop suitable IT application systems that make workflows more efficient and open up new possibilities.
  • You will gain valuable insights into exciting fields such as IT architectures, information systems, databases, information security and cloud applications, building a broad technical foundation.
  • You will support the introduction of new systems and the optimisation of existing processes to improve IT landscapes on a lasting basis.
  • You will gain practical experience at the interface between IT and management – from working on projects to helping shape processes during practical phases with our partner companies.

What you will learn during your Business Informatics dual study programme

In the Business Informatics dual study programme, you will acquire a unique combination of business knowledge and IT expertise. You will learn how digital technologies move businesses forward, from analysing and optimising business processes to developing and implementing modern information systems and application systems. 

You’ll build a strong foundation in computer science, including programming, databases, IT security and system architectures, and expand your knowledge through specialisations, elective modules and practice-oriented assignments. The curriculum covers topics such as project management, IT management, business process management, software engineering, business intelligence and digitalisation.

During the practical phases with our partner institutions, you will apply your theoretical knowledge directly, shape processes and develop innovative IT solutions. Your goal: to become an expert at the interface between business and IT, and actively shape the professional profile of a modern business informatics specialist.

The training programme of our Business Informatics dual study programme

The dual study programme at Bundesdruckerei GmbH begins in the winter semester on 1 October at HWR Berlin. At Xecuro GmbH in Bonn, you start on 1 September in cooperation with Rheinische Hochschule Köln (University of Applied Sciences). The programme lasts six semesters (three years) and regularly alternates between theory phases at the university and exciting practical phases at the workplace. 

At university, you will gain the theoretical foundation: from business administration and IT management through to computer science modules such as programming, databases, IT security, information systems and application systems. During the practical phases with our partner companies, you will put this knowledge into practice: you will analyse business processes, support the introduction of new systems, develop concepts for IT application systems and contribute to projects focused on digitalisation, security and cloud technologies.

Your remuneration during the dual study programme in Business Informatics

We offer an attractive remuneration package that increases with each year of study. In addition, you receive holiday pay, an annual bonus and, where applicable, support towards tuition fees.

At Bundesdruckerei GmbH, your remuneration based on a 35-hour workweek is: 

  • 1. Year: €1,241.36
  • 2. Year: €1,307.80
  • 3. Year: €1,522.58

At Xecuro GmbH, your remuneration based on a 40-hour workweek is: 

  • 1. Year: €1,421.03
  • 2. Year: €1,497.09
  • 3. Year: €1,742.95
