Start date & duration: 

The programme starts on 1 September in Bonn and on 1 October in Berlin and Hamburg. You alternate between theory phases at university and practical phases at the company.

Required school-leaving qualification: 

You have a general higher education entrance qualification or advanced technical college entrance qualification and impress with good grades in mathematics. Previous knowledge of computer science or IT is an additional advantage. 

Your responsibilities in the dual study programme in Computer Science 

From algorithms to Zero Trust: during your Computer Science studies, you will explore the full spectrum of IT. You will develop software, analyse complex problems and translate business requirements into functional source code. You will also learn how to set up databases and build complex network structures. 

Your responsibilities in detail:

  • You will contribute to exciting projects in different IT areas and can bring your personal strengths and interests to the table.
  • You will take on hands-on tasks during the practical phases and work on innovative solutions that create real value.
  • You will engage with a wide range of topics, including frontend and backend development, software engineering, databases, embedded systems and information technology, while working with modern technologies.
  • You will support the operation of applications, work with university computing centres and contribute to the development and optimisation of secure IT infrastructures to ensure stable digital solutions.
  • You will gain insights into specialist areas relevant to your studies, such as IT security, software development and project management.

What you’ll learn during the dual study programme in Computer Science

On the dual Computer Science programme you will acquire comprehensive IT knowledge and methodological skills. You will learn to develop software solutions from the initial idea to the finished application gaining solid expertise in programming, databases, networks, operating systems and IT security. Alongside the technical foundations, the programme also covers software engineering, embedded systems, project management, as well as legal and economic aspects. 

During the practical phases, you will apply what you have learned directly in the company, work on real projects and strengthen your skills in teamwork, communication and structured documentation. The aim of the programme is to prepare you systematically for demanding tasks in software development, with a strong practical focus and a high awareness of quality and security. During your studies, you will also train as an IT specialist and learn how to solve technical problems in a practical way.

The training programme of our dual study programme in Computer Science

At Bundesdruckerei GmbH, the dual study programme starts in the winter semester on 1 October at HWR Berlin. At Maurer Electronics GmbH in Hamburg, the programme also begins on 1 October at Hamburg University of Technology. At Xecuro GmbH in Bonn, it starts earlier on 1 September in cooperation with the Rheinische Fachhochschule Cologne. The programme begins with a joint onboarding week in Berlin, where you get to know the company and other new talents. 

From the very beginning, you are involved in real IT projects and gain valuable experience during the practical phases of your studies. At the HWR and your university of applied sciences, you will build a strong theoretical foundation in areas such as programming, databases, software engineering and IT security. 

In the final year, you will deepen your knowledge during a specialisation phase and prepare specifically for your bachelor’s project. Throughout the entire programme, you will be supported by our experts – professionally, methodologically and personally.

Your remuneration during our dual study programme in Computer Science

At the Bundesdruckerei Group, you can expect attractive remuneration during your studies with annual increases. In addition, you receive a holiday bonus and an annual bonus (Christmas bonus). Depending on the location, your training will take place at Bundesdruckerei GmbH in Berlin, at Xecuro GmbH in Bonn and Berlin, or at Maurer Electronics GmbH in Hamburg.

Bundesdruckerei GmbH offers you the following remuneration for a 35-hour working week: 

  • 1st year: € 1,241.36
  • 2nd year: € 1,307.80
  • 3rd year: € 1,522.58 

Xecuro GmbH offers you the following remuneration for a 40-hour week:

  • 1st year:  € 1,421.03
  • 2nd year:  € 1,497.09
  • 3rd year:  € 1,742.95 

Maurer Electronics GmbH offers you the following remuneration for a 40-hour week:

  • 1st year:  € 1,421.03
  • 2nd year:  € 1,497.09
  • 3rd year:  € 1,742.95
