Using state-of-the-art printing technology, our team produces tamper-proof print products, and you will be involved from day one. You will learn how ideas and print data are transformed into top-quality products that are used in a wide range of fields, from digital printing and web-offset printing to rotogravure. At Bundesdruckerei GmbH in Berlin, you can start this apprenticeship each year and gain direct experience in professional production areas such as digital or web-offset printing.
Apprenticeship remuneration
We offer you an attractive apprenticeship remuneration of €1,200 in the first year, which increases with each year of training.
Start and duration of the apprenticeship
The apprenticeship starts every year on 1 September. The standard duration is three years, with the option to shorten it if you perform well.
Educational requirements
At least a secondary school leaving certificate with good grades is required.
Your responsibilities as a Media Technologist in printing (m/f/d)
You will work alongside experienced colleagues throughout the entire production process. You will operate state-of-the-art printing technology and high-precision printing presses, learn different printing methods such as digital printing, web-offset printing or rotogravure, and develop a keen sense of quality and precision.
- You will produce a wide range of printed products using different machines and processes.
- You will analyse the technical feasibility of jobs and check the print data for completeness and suitability for production to ensure a smooth process.
- You will plan workflows and set up the printing presses, including preparing printing plates.
- You will monitor the automated printing process and ensure product quality through regular inspections.
- You will manage finishing and further processing of the printed products through to the final product.

During your apprenticeship as a Media Technologist in printing, you will become a specialist in modern printing processes.
You will plan print jobs, set up machines and ensure that everything runs smoothly from the initial dataset to the finished product. In the process, you will become familiar with various printing technologies, from digital printing and web-offset printing through to rotogravure. You will work on colour management, quality control and the production of printing plates. You will also operate state-of-the-art systems, monitor production processes and focus on efficient and precise manufacturing.
Topics such as occupational safety, environmental protection and cost-effectiveness are also part of your daily routine. Teamwork, communication and documenting your work will prepare you for responsible roles in the print production of tomorrow.
The training programme for your apprenticeship as a Media Technologist in printing (m/f/d)
The apprenticeship begins annually on 1 September, and the training duration is usually three years. It kicks off with a joint onboarding week in Berlin. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will regularly alternate between practical training and vocational school.
At the start, you will learn the basics, such as how to work with printing presses and printing plates, as well as different processes such as digital printing or web-offset printing. Over time, you will gain real-world experience in production areas such as postage and revenue stamps, and eventually in banknote and ID production.
At the same time, you will gain theoretical knowledge of printing processes, materials and colour management. Our training teams provide you with professional and personal support throughout your apprenticeship.
Your apprenticeship remuneration as a Media Technologist in printing (m/f/d)
At Bundesdruckerei GmbH in Berlin, you benefit from an apprenticeship remuneration that increases each year. You will also receive holiday pay and an annual bonus.
For a 35-hour week, your apprenticeship remuneration will be:
- 1st year of training: €1,241.36
- 2nd year of training: €1,300.36
- 3rd year of training: €1,359.36
