Each of the seven euro banknotes represents a period of European cultural history - the front of each banknote displays a gateway or window whilst a bridge is depicted on the back of each note.

Commencing 1 January 2002, the euro will become legal tender in 12 of the 25 member states of the European Union (namely Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain).

In Germany, German marks can still be used of course during the starting phase.
However, only until 28 February 2002, after this date, payments will only be possible in euro.

In order to make this transition to the new currency easier, we would like to present to you here the euro banknotes, some of which are produced at Bundesdruckerei GmbH in Berlin.
At the same time, we have compiled a list of links that offer more information concerning the euro.
