Investments in security
World-class technology is the distinguishing feature of Bundesdruckerei's production plants for ID documents. Since 1987, more than 230 million ID cards and passports have been produced here. On-going investment in research, development and training as well as in the technical equipment for document production secure Bundesdruckerei's innovative strength and leading position in international competition.

Thanks to DIGANT®, the digital application procedure for ID documents and driving licences developed by Bundesdruckerei GmbH, it is now also possible to produce the new express passport. DIGANT® is used by registration authorities to electronically transmit the application data, i.e. paperless and without time-consuming postal services.

Reliable security
Besides tried-and tested security features - such as watermarks, fine line structures (guilloches) and special colour gradations in the print - Bundesdruckerei is today also making increasing use of high-tech developments. In conjunction with classical security features, protection against forgery is being increasingly enhanced by means of optically variable and machine-detectable components. Not least, ith the introduction of the electronic passports - or in short ePassports - a new dimension in document security and identity protection was opened up. Bundesdruckerei's expertise and the experienced gained by ensuring that German ID documents comply with international security standards guarantee that every order is produced to exacting security requirements.
