Security features

The first thing which strikes you about the new security card is the transpartent overlay. A stylised road system with moving traffic is visible over the entire surface. Various road traffic signs and a set of traffic lights are also visible. Various images appear and disappear depending on the incidence of light. Either a large D (for Germany) or the German eagle appear on the photograph.

1. European flag with the letter "D" (for Germany)
2. Line made of miniature characters
3. All personal and image data is applied using a special lettering technique. For technical reasons, the photograph is reproduced in black and white.
4. See-through register: When held up against the light, a stylised "E" appears in the see-through register.
5. Summary of the licence-holder's vehicle classes. This entry is also tactile, along with lines 1, 3, 5 and 9.
6. As with identity cards and passports, the signature is digitised directly from the driving licence production copy and is located in the body of the card.
7. Special ink causes the colour reproduction to vary depending on the viewing angle.

1. Symbolised representation of all driving licence classes.
2. Paper box for hand-written remarks by the authorities.
3. Holographic security thread with microlettering.
4. Key to all entries.
5. A special inscription technique creates a changeable laser image in which a fixed motif (three road traffic signs) and individual letters and numbers (part of the driving licence number) are visible depending on the viewing angle.
6. See-through register: When held up against the light, a stylised "E" appears in the see-through register.
