"edYOUcation"

"Education is something very diverse", says Ulrich Hamann, CEO of Bundesdruckerei GmbH. "Therefore it is important to tailor education as precisely as possible to the needs of young people. They have to be able to relate to education in order to become committed to it."

In pursuit of this goal, Bundesdruckerei is supporting a number of educational projects that address different target groups but nevertheless have the same objective: to promote the talent of each and every individual in order to help them find and retain their identity - edYOUcation.

StreetUniverCity Berlin® (SUB) is one of the project partners with which Bundesdruckerei already co-operated in 2008 under the motto of "Kunst im Kiez". The Berlin-based company attaches particular importance to this institution because it is situated in the Kreuzberg district - in the vicinity of Bundesdruckerei. StreetUniverCity Berlin is attended by children and young people from underprivileged families who fall through the traditional educational system. SUB offers them the possibility to get a certificate, the so-called "Master of StreetUniverCity" which they can attach to their application documents. To get this certificate, they have to collect scores in different courses, including creative art and music workshops, political education, application training and legal courses. At the same time, it is also very important for SUB to foster acceptance between different generations. As Bundesdruckerei's guest at the 2009 Summer Party of the German Federal President, SUB presented so-called street codes and explained that these codes were a kind of sign language which young people use to exchange information, take a stance and to reveal part of their identity. Many of the visitors at the summer party were encouraged to talk to the SUB graduates in this new language and to try out the newly learnt signs.

The endowed chair for "Secure Identity" is another one of Bundesdruckerei's educational projects. In 2007, FU Berlin and Bundesdruckerei signed an agreement to set up the first - and still only - endowed professorship at FU Berlin. This is the first chair in Germany to deal with technologies for securing identities. It considers not only technical and mathematical aspects, but also the social and legal fundamentals of IT security technology. Chaired by Prof. Dr. Volker Roth, the first seminar on the topic of IT security started in the summer term of 2009. Guest lectures by Bundesdruckerei experts, for instance, are planned for the future. In the long term, the seminar is to be expanded to include a Master's degree course.
