Company chronicle

1979: 100th anniversary of Reichsdruckerei / Bundesdruckerei

Central production of German ID documents
1979 - Briefmarke 1979 was more than just an important anniversary for Bundesdruckerei. During the International Aviation Security Conference in Montreal, the Federal Republic of Germany announced its willingness to develop an international standard for forge-proof ID documents and to introduce these documents quickly for its citizens. German ID documents were now to be produced centrally at Bundesdruckerei in Berlin which in 1981 began working on the new passport to be introduced in 1985.

At the same time, the company also worked for the newly established European Patent Office, copying patent applications onto microfilm and printing abstracts.

1979 Führerschein

In 1986, the postage stamp series "Important Women in History" was presented in Germany. The elaborate postage stamps represented maximum protection against forgery and were intaglio-printed by Bundesdruckerei's copperplate engravers.

That same year, the new European driving licence was introduced and centrally produced for Germany at Bundesdruckerei.
